understood precisely what he was talking about.
Unfortunately, I think he elaborated on them too
much. He knew quite well what kind of a writer he
was and what kind of a thinker he was, but
occasionally he would forget it. He would start
talking about “hot” and “cool” and these different
media, and then he would start making a list of
things that were “hot” and things that were
“cool.” And you would want to say, “Marshall,
don’t push it any further, you have told us
something, you have something, don’t push it any
further than you have.” I think by “hot” and “cool”
he simply meant intense, finished and final—one
